An update on the patchwork project which I started just over two years ago...
I've been snipping up some more of the hoarded baby clothes...
....to keep my box of fabric covered hexagon papers topped up.
It's almost worth having a box of these just to take a photo of them.
I took them outside for a little photo shoot this morning.
In the white box I have lots of hexagons ready for joining, in the green box I keep my cut fabric pieces and paper hexagons for covering as well as thread (black for tacking so I can see it to remove it later, white for joining), needle and scissors.
A rear view, you can see I've not removed any of my paper yet. I now use this site
for for my hexagon templates - they're good symmetrical hexagons unlike some that are available elsewhere.
The fabrics include a favourite jacket of my daughter's, my son's first shirt, and one of my tops which is now too big for me (hurrah!).
At first I wasn't sure if all the different colours and patterns were working together, but as more are added it starts to look better (honest!)
As I said, it's taken two years to get this far. Sometimes I get fed up with it and it is hidden away for a while.
I'm liking it just now though. In fact I'm now off to join a few more hexagons before bed time...
Looks great, patchwork is stuck in my head to make one day, I love the idea of it being old favourite clothes,i love the history and sense of heritage....do you not think you'll have to make one each for the kids too?;-)
I've never done patchwork, but your blanket makes me want to start,it looks lovely!
oh it's lovely, I love the little boxes full of prepared hexies!
You are so organised. WOW!
Love the patchwork, love that you have used clothes, fabrics with memories. Two year whats that. It is
made with love and care. and will last a lifetime.
Great progress, I have a patchwork project that I started 5 years ago but its far too hot to think about that. Have a warm weekend.
It is so beautiful and now with the memories of those precious clothes sewn in, it is even more fantastic.
Hugs to you,
I think you should get extra points for being so organized. That's almost as good as finishing a project. :)
It looks great so far, and the little pops of red are perfect.
The photo of the box is my favourite I think - so satisfying to have stacks of things sorted by colour.
Oh your quilt is absolutely beautiful! I love Hexie Paper Piecing. I've got one on the go that's been 3 years now! xxxx
Fantastic effect of the colours - very jolly!
You are so well organised. I never made patches and put them in colour groups. In fact, I never did finish the quilt and it languishes in a drawer still. Maybe one day?
I really like this. I've seen a few lovely hexagon quilts in blogland lately and I think I'm catching the bug. I actually prefer the busy look and different fabrics, it's more homespun somehow. x
came out beautiful
Wow, it looks amazing Anne.....love all the different patterns and colours and to think they were special outfits for the kids plus others........
Keep at it, it will look amazing when finished.
Big question, who is going to use it?
That's amazing. It looks akin to being a kid in a sweet shop! All those pretty hexagons.
