Saturday Morning Bike Ride.

Yay! I had time this weekend for a bike ride.

I saw... the (not ancient at all!) stone circle, lots of gates, sheep, cows, wide open views, empty roads, the tree avenue, harebells, ragwort, umbels, butterflies (only white ones still), swallows (with us yet - summer is not over!).

I smelt... the sweet scent of himalayan balsam (I know it shouldn't be here, but it does smell lovely) and wild honeysuckle.

I heard... aeroplanes (we are under the flight path for Glasgow airport after all, even if it does look like I'm in the middle of nowhere much of the time), sheep baaing and silence (between the aeroplanes!).

I felt... puffed out by the long steep hill and by the end my thighs definitely felt like they'd been put to work. Physically, I pushed myself harder than I have for a long time (I am rather unfit I have to say).

I enjoyed it all very much...

(I didn't eat anything hence the lack of a report for taste!)

Lovely sights as always. That's the second time this week I've heard some mention the sweet scent of Himalayan Balsam! I hate the smell of it, I can sniff it out a mile away and it makes me feel sick!

It looks like a really lovely place for a bike ride. I love all the animals having a look at you. And that pretty stone ruin. Nice to see a swallow on the wire. He'll be leaving soon I think, we saw some gathering together yesterday. CJ xx

So good to see a cycling post from you! Looks like you had a good day for it. I survived my first orienteering run yesterday......my legs are suffering today!
Well done for getting through that first week of supply. I hope things get easier for you. Juliex

The swallows are starting to gather here - I do love their chattering calls - and I saw several swifts on Saturday. They must've been on their way to Africa. Lovely photos of your area. I love the one of the sheep looking at you.

What a beautiful place to ride. I love seeing all the wildflowers and fruit, and those cows and sheep look so curious and interested in what you're up to!

I loved the story and the photos.. my favorites were the cute spotted faced sheep and the window in the rock ruin with flowers. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What a lovely, picture rich post. I like the avenue of trees, the light was just right in that one and the other I really liked was the window in the broken down wall.

What would farmers do without baler twine?

A wonderful visit to the countryside with you! That avenue of trees is amazing isn't it, it reminds me of one of the more recent Hockney paintings. Love - as always! - the underside shots of the umbelifers! Glad you had a good time! xx
