Necropolis

The essay is 99% finished, just a few minor tweaks required. Now that it's almost out the way I feel like I'm released back into normal life! Hopefully, the level of chocolate consumption will drop back down to normal now too, which will be a good thing.

At the end of last week I had an hour long break. I fancied some fresh air, a change from sitting in the library. We're close to quite a few of Glasgow's historic visitor attractions, I decided to go for a wander round one I'd not been to before - the necropolis. Even the name sounds wonderful, it literally means "city of the dead". I seem to recall it being a bit of a no-go area when I was at Uni first time round, however, it seems safe enough these days. Here follow lots of drippy, misty photos, quite atmospheric but not great for the views. I had my new boots on again, it's a bit of a revelation wearing jeans tucked in - it's cosy and dry, no more flappy soggy trouser leg bottoms and chilly draughts wafting up your legs!

Wow, it is so beautiful, historic and a tiny bit spooky, perfect for this time of year. And look at you looking super cool in your boots.
Hugs,

I'm loving these images! That's my kind of place, weird though that may sound. I grew up in a house next door to a cemetery ... a strange very Gothic affair in the middle of a small village. It was a product of the local landowners attempt to provide an impressive burial place for all his tenants and was my playground as a child.

What a great way to clear your head while still in the city. Laughing at your jeans and boots comments - a fairly new revelation for me too, and isn't it handy to keep your jeans hems dry?! Juliex

That looks like a really interesting place to wander. Glad your essay is almost done, I hope your PGCE is going well. My course has been awful and I have quit! The workload was making me ill and I've never been so miserable. I decided life it too short to put myself through it, especially as it wouldn't have been much better after I'd qualified. I feel like a failure, and I'm unemployed now, but I still feel quitting was the right thing to do.

It's gorgeous - all the different shapes and sizes of monuments and markers. I wonder if any of them looked as garish when first set up as some of our modern tombstones do? They have weathered so beautifully - the advantage of stone over marble.

You look very stylish indeed. :)

Ooh I'd love to have a wander round there.
The flappy, soggy jeans bottoms is horrible.

Ha ha-I just read your last post because of what you said about your boots-I too have fairly recently bought some actual skinny jeans and one other pair of narrow legged ones and they both fit into my newish bots or go well with my short boots. I feel so modern and glamorous! Whether I look it or not is another matter. At my school there are a whole new bunch of teachers straight out of college who were all there last year as students and they all have lovely long (ungrey) hair that they wear in interesting arrangements or just glamourously long and beautiful. Apart from one who is a man! I do still wear my bootcut jeans though as I like them and they are comfy and there is nothing wrong with them. It is funny how fashion eventually catches up with us all!
Love the photos of Necropolis. It reminds me a bit of Calton hill in Edinburgh.

You had the perfect gloomy day for a trip there, your photos are very atmospheric.

I've just enjoyed a lovely catch up with your recent posts. Life sounds full and hectic, and good too. I don't envy you the essays though! Your comments on the style of younger students made me laugh. We live near a high school and what the sixth formers wear is endlessly fascinating to me. It's all incredibly long hair, messy buns and very short shorts. Oh, and patterned leggings... xx
