Holiday, part 1...

Here's a little bit about our holiday. We went to Kirkcudbright which is a lovely little harbour town in the south west of Scotland.

It has a castle, several galleries and is close to lots of lovely beaches accessed by quiet roads so they're ideal for cycling to.

We hired a cottage for the week. We selected it specifically because it had a garden which many of the cottages didn't seem to. However, it was a very small and steeply terraced garden as can be seen from the middle photo in the mosaic, not suitable for toddlers at all. The top terrace had cat poo on it which I didn't notice till I'd stepped right in the middle of it. The perpetrator was probably the beastie living next door, his rather grumpy face can be seen photgraphed through the fence, top left of the photo-mosaic. We were round the corner from an ice cream shop (blue cloud, strawberry and mint choc chip shown middle right) and fish and chip shop, less than a minutes walk from the town centre and there was a play park across the road at the back so the cottage was very handy, and it was also lovely and clean and fresh inside.

N loved it down at the harbour. There were lots of interesting boats and bits all around the coast.

I liked all the interesting little gates and doors.

We took our bikes and the tag-along and trailer for A & N and managed to fit in quite a lot a cycling. On the whole the weather was excellent with just the one day of rain.

More on the cycling and other day trips and a little bit of crochet to follow...

On the downside, I seem to have left my mobile phone there somewhere!

  3. I've just said to John that we must go and he replied that he's been wanting to for years....there's good mountainbiking nearby. So, hopefully we'll make a camping trip in the summer.

  5. It's a lovely part of Scotland, I've had 2 holidays in Dumfries and Galloway in recent years and I love it. It's so unspoiled and quiet. The ice cream is brilliant too!
